Sports pin trading began a long time ago as a little seed that was planted, having grown today into a massive “sport” of its own. The passion for baseball pin trading continues to thrive and grow as the years go by.
Although sports pins have become a mainstay in little league baseball tournaments, enthusiasts of other sports have picked up the hobby, with basketball, soccer, NFL, and even car racing enthusiasts showing support for the trade. Olympic pins are another sports pin collector’s item that has acquired a large following over the years.
Baseball teams come up with new pin designs(baseball pins and softball pins) to add to the excitement and suspense each baseball season. Collectors try to collect the designs of different teams. Traders compare designs to find the highest value among team pins. Team players themselves love to collect their own team’s pins, with the sense of pride of any healthy athlete. They trade their pins with other teams with the same amount of fervor with which they play the game, creating a sense of camaraderie amongst competitors that reflects sports’ ability to show the best of people.
The village of Cooperstown in New York is testament to the avid trade of baseball pin trading. Known as a mecca for baseball fans and housing the National Baseball Hall of Fame and Museum, summer time in the little town is swarmed by thousands of visitors as well as little league baseball players who come to participate in the Cooperstown little league summer tournaments, some of the biggest tournaments in the nation.
Traveling teams at tournaments like these try to beat the crazy rush to get pins well before the beginning of the seasons or tournament weeks, by ordering early. There are truly tons of design options to go with to make your pin especially unique. The images, your use of color, shape, size and additional “dazzler” items, like glitter, spinners or danglers all come together to make your pin truly exceptional.
You wouldn’t want to be caught at Cooperstown, or any other little league tournament for that matter, without your team pins; you will sorely miss out on what has become a hallmark of the little league experience.
