What is Diecast?
Diecasting (as opposed to die stamping or diestruck) is an alternative yet effective process used to create custom metal lapel pins. This process is also known as casting, white metal casting, pewter casting, zinc alloy casting among other names. Pewter and zinc refer to the base metal that is used in this process as opposed to brass, copper or iron in the die stamping process. Diecast pins are very similar in appearance to diestruck pins. The main difference is they are slightly thicker and can have any number of inner cutouts for no extra money. Diecast pins are made by creating a mold, injecting liquid metal such as pewter or zinc alloy into the recessed area to form the pin. Once the metal cools it hardens in the shape of the pin. Diecast pins are slightly more expensive than hard enamel pins but really produce a unique custom look that is impressive. Diecast pins can be plated and painted just like soft enamel and hard enamel pins. Most people would not be able to tell the difference between a diecast and diestruck pin. Usually the giveaway is the inner cutouts.
