In fact, May Day is a Celtic festival that occurs every May 1. Really it happens exactly one half year from November 1, which means this typically falls on May 1, making it known to modern day society as “May Day.” This holiday was traditionally loud, rambunctious and gave communities an excellent reason to get drunk and party. The festival itself dates to pre-Christian times and in many European cultures is a pagan holiday. Originally, May 1 was considered the first day of summer and June 25 (now June 21) was simply the Midsummer solstice.
